Taniayogini’s top 5 yoga books recommendations

I often get asked by my students for recommendations of my favorite yoga books. There are many wonderful books on yoga to explore and these are my current top 5!

1. T.K.V. Desikachar: The Heart of Yoga: Developing a Personal Practice

This is a wonderful book to help students and teachers alike to develop a rounded and suitable personal practice. It includes an introduction and translation of Patanjali’s yoga sutras to help students go beyond the physical practice of the asanas.

2.Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha: Swami Satyananda Saraswati

This book introduces some of the key aspects of yoga beyond the asana. It provides useable instructions on the Pawanmuktasana series of poses which is suitable for all. It is comprehensive and easy to understand and includes an introduction to yogic physiological theory, such as prana, nadis and charkad.

3. Erich Schiffmann: The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness

Schiffmann provides excellent explanations of some of the subtler aspects of the yoga practice, such as lines of energy, and how to seek and follow guidance in your own practice.

4.Donna Farhi: The breathing book

The breath is a key aspect of our yoga practice and can help us feel calmer and more present. This book provides a number of very simple and effective yoga techniques and practices to help us improve our breathing.

5. Yoga Nidra: Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Yoga Nidra is a wonderful simple technique that can be done at any time. It is particularly useful if you are suffering from exhaustion, stress or anxiety.
